Sorry everyone, I guess Restaurant Wars really took a lot out of me! I haven't updated in over a week, but good thing there's no new Top Chef: Las Vegas this week. I'll have another week to do last week's challenge. More on that later...
Last week was kind of a weird episode. The format was a little off for me, and things kind of felt rushed, but who cares, Natalie Portman was on the show!! She is so beautiful in every way. I think her and Padma should be best friends. They seem to giggle a lot together.
For the quickfire, they had to interpret iconic TV shows into TV dinners. Jen pulled the Flintstones and mentions she wishes she had a cute little boyfriend like Bam Bam to drag her around by her ponytail. You know, that sideways ponytail we all love on her.
Unfortunately her ponytail didn't save her from the bottom of the quickfire challenge. Neither did Robin's foul-looking dish. I call it "Egg in a Beefhole." ::vomits::
Seriously? What is that?
Michael V's dish made Padma go "Mm" and Paul seconded that "Mm," but in the end it was Kevin's balls that won. His meatballs, that is.
Robin seemed to revert back into an adolescent girl in this episode, or maybe just a gangster.
Robin to Jen: "Hey let's let a boy go home tonight. Tehe!"
When Tom walks into the kitchen: "We got chef in da house!" And I could have sworn she threw up a gang sign with one of her hands.
Discovering all the different vegetables in the walk-in: "Sooo cooool!"
Trying to put together her dish: "Oh brain, come on work." "I'm losing time like a banshee."
Ok Robin, please stop talking.
When Tom introduced Natalie Portman to the chefs, Mike I.'s mouth fell to the floor and his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. Hey, mine did too when I saw that she was going to be on Top Chef. But everyone's excitement over Natalie soon dropped when she announced she was a vegetarian. Except me. Being diagnosed with cancer, I've had to learn how to eat healthy... I mean vegetarians are people, too. Sorry, that was Robin talking again.
I like how Eli and Jen flip an orange peel to see who gets the better eggplant. They're so civil. If it were any other season, Eli would have grabbed it, ran, and slammed the door on Robin for no reason. Although Jen did seem kind of upset, unless she's always that rough with her vegetables. This was not a good episode for her, or her hair.
I love seeing chefs in their normal clothes. Didn't Eli wear that same outfit for Restaurant Wars? Speaking of clothes, I know Padma gets bad press about her jumpsuits, but I think Gail committed a bigger fashion faux-paus this episode.
I love Gail, but those ruffles need to go.
Michael gets called Picasso again, and Padma finds it really amusing.
"That is SOOO INTERESTING!" Not as interesting as the conversation you guys had about little pricks turning big in the mouth. Dirty judges! And I don't mean dirty from Jen's sauce flying all over the place. I'm really concerned for her. If she doesn't pull herself together, she might end up like Jessie. =[
Congratulations to Kevin for taking home another win! He just seems unstoppable at this point. Michael was a sore loser, except he wasn't really the loser. Mike I. was. He gave excuses about why his leeks didn't turn out good, but nobody really cares because he's so cocky. I mean it is what it is right? Whatever, whatever.
Then Robin goes off on her talking spree again, "Garbanzo beans this, garbanzo beans that... yap yap yap." Say garbanzo beans one more time. "Garbanzo beans." Even Jen looked bored. But alas, Robin is safe to yap another week. Apparently this makes Eli very angry, because he kicked the chair when he found out Mike was going home instead of her.
So I'm sad to say that I'm a little tight on funds this week, so I will not be doing the elimination challenge, which would be my first choice. I'll have to do the quickfire, but I might have to wait until Wednesday when I get paid. Sorry! Even a Top Chef Wannabe needs a mid-season break. Until next week!

All in all, wasn't a big fan of the episode. In my opinion i didn't think Natalie Portman should have been the guest judge, after all this is a cooking competition and really how much does she know about food? The producers seemed to have tailored this episode to her and her diet by having the chefs make vegetarian dishes at craftsteak, a gimmicky irony that seemed to fall flat. And during the "morning-after-top chef" discussions I have with Guy, we both think that most of their dishes seemed like side dishes anyway-we also agreed that although Kevin won, his dish did not look appealing.
Robin needs to be kicked off next episode or it means that the producers are keeping her on for pure entertainment and drama. I remember watching one of the web exclusive videos and Michael V called Robin's "egg in a beefhole" e coli. During the elimination, she also talked WAY too much. The judges asked her a simple question to which she started referencing the different vegetables she used, which didn't answer the question at all.
Anyway, during which previous episode was Michael V called Picasso?
And yes, Eli is wearing the same outfit he wore during restaurant wars, but in a non-lesbian way doesn't Jen look smokin' in that black number? That girl is stick skinny!
Also, I don't know if you've heard but, E! got a reliable tip from a source that had a casual conversation with one of the top 4 chefs and one of them let slip that he/she "doesn't make it to the end." The only clue given is that this person has had multiple wins (which in my opinion doesn't say much).
To end this comment, are you up for a foodie adventure at The Dining Room celebration of Top Chef finale? I asked Guy and he is still deciding. Maybe if we got him a new dress shirt he will go (jk Guy!).
lol oh nancy... yeah the episode felt a little off to me, and the only two dishes that really stood out to me (in a good way) were Michael V's and Eli's. His dish was really beautiful.
Yes I heard about the tip from E! It could really be any of the 4, but I think since Jen has been doing kind of poor lately, it would be the biggest shocker if Kevin didn't make it to the end.
And yeah, guy told me about the Dining Room. Unfortunately I can't afford a dinner like that in these coming months. Thanks for the invite though! I LOL'd about your comment on his shirt, hehe.
oh and the first time Michael was called Picasso was by Ash in the Dinner Party Episode. "It's like asking me if I mind washing paint brushes off for Picasso."
No problem! But we should definitely meet some time soon...over food of course! In the meantime, keep cooking-can't wait to see what you come up with next! =]
